patagucci and panchos

it seems like it was only yesterday that my two friends and i decided to go to patagonia.... oh wait, that's because it was. basically. and now it's sunday night and we leave for puerto madryn on wednesday! it's really exciting. all i have to do is get through 6 straight hours of class tomorrow, 2 hours on tuesday, and then 6 straight hours on wednesday and them i'm done til the 26th. talk about "studying" abroad.

to sum up this weekend in one word: boring? i had to catch myself on that one because when i went to type "boring", i accidentally typed "bro-ing". either or, i mean, they both imply what i did. thursday, i went on a run and met my friend kelson in the park. she brought chalk and we did some ghetto ladders and agility drills (i feel like i have already blogged about this...). friday, i slept in til 10am, then joined a gym that's about a mile or so from my house. it's good because now whenever i'm bored here (which seems to happen a lot) i can just go to the gym and sit on an exercise ball to make myself feel better. i stayed in friday night and watched ps. i love you. i know that sounds really pathetic, but it was needed. saturday, i went back to the gym then stayed in my house the rest of the day. a lot of my friends here say that they are always in their house, but i feel like i've never had that feeling before. it was nice to chill in my room and get some homework done.

my family left yesterday around 3pm to go into the mountains. so from 3pm yesterday til about an hour ago, i had the house to myself. it was really relaxing and nice to know that i could play my american katy perry music loudly without being judged. it was also nice to cook my own dinner last night. i made an omelet with the spinach that my mom bought. yay for some veggies that weren't drowning in oil and salt.  last night a bunch of us went out to por acá on aristides for some dancing. my friend's boyfriend (and his friend) were here in mendoza, so we met up with them before at a bar. somehow we ended up not having to pay the expensive bill (there were about 10 or 11 of us), so on the way to the club, we stopped at pancho villa (aka hot dog house) and got some ginormous hot dogs. pancho villa is on the bucket list of things to do before you leave mendoza. they have a huge amount of toppings for your "pancho", or hot dog, from 4-cheese sauce to chimichurri, to all kinds of minced olives, to veggies, to the "lluvia de papas" (shoestring french fries) that they dump all over it. not a big fan of hot dogs, but pancho villa was delicious. we went to por acá til around 4:30am, then decided it was time to end the night. i took a taxi home and had a nice conversation with the taxi driver (he asked why i was going home so early, sorry buddy it's 4am and i need my bff to take care of me. that's why i'm going home so early) until we pulled up to my house and he gives me a card with his name personally written on it with his cell phone and told me if i needed anything to give him a call because he knows "muchísimo sobre mendoza" (a lot about mendoza). so by this time, we're in las heras aka sketchville so i say thanks and run across the road to my house. he guns the motor and screeches out of the neighborhood and waves goodnight as i'm fumbling to find my keys and put them in the right locks in the three doors that you need to open to get into my house. it was all good til the homemade business card old man.

so now it's sunday and i've completed most of my work for this week. pretty successful i'd say. for now, i'm just super excited about patagonia. only 14 hours of school stands in between me and the mountains. with a 20 hour bus ride in between the school and the mountains.

but while we're away, september 21st marks the first day of the primavera here in mendoza. aka it is socially acceptable to wear all things summer. i wore sandals two days ago when it was 80 degrees out and people looked at me like i had three heads. even though the weather has been gorgeous here (no wonder mendoza is called the land of sun and good wine...), no one wears summer clothing until the unofficial official first day of spring. my mom said the piropos (or catcalls, made by men here to any women or girl they find attractive, note: all americans are attractive here, because we stick out so much) get really aggressive with the spring because the women show their legs and wear less clothing! good thing i look especially attractive when i'm really sweaty and my hair frizzes from walking in 100 degree weather.

late night panchos? best 6 pesos we ever spent.

so there you have it. weekend number 6? 7? 8? spent in mendoza. almost 2 months down, and by the time we get back from patty-g, it'll be close to october (HALLOWEEN) and then we'll have 2ish months left. time flies when yo having fun. thinking of everyone at home on september 11th too, makes me kind of homesick. besos a todos, xoxo
