so i lied when i said nothing much had happened. because the minute after i wrote my post, my host mom called me into the kitchen ("vení, vení hannita!!"). i though someone had died, pancho had caught on fire, or some other emergency had happened. slight emergency. pancho ate my underwear. TWO PAIRS. apparently he eats clothing more than food ("su ropa es la comida del pancho", said my host mom), and if i leave my clothes on the floor, he will eat them. or rip them to shreds. i had a really hard time comprehending this conversation, as my host mom is saying something about "correas" (which i found out means "thongs" in english). so of course my 8 year old host brother is doing his homework in the same room and basically pees himself laughing when she says underwear. i'm confused until she shows me the mangled underwear that is hanging in the living room. then i get it and try to not make the situation more awkward by saying that it's okay ("no, no, está bien!"). but of course my little brother is practically dying of laughter because my mom said the word for "thong". it was probably one of the most funny/awkward/uncomfortable moments since i've been here.
also i caught my other host brother singing a harry potter puppet pals song. he was so intimidated that i knew all the words and also impressed that i knew what the harry potter puppet pals were. also i have taught my parents the lyrics (in spanish) to several of the beatle's most popular songs ("i wanna hold your hand"=quiero tomar la mano). good thing the beatles used extremely simple vocabulary, although my family is impressed at my ability to translate! okay. so that is pretty much everything that has gone on in this past week. other than getting locked out of my room multiple times. but that's just normal i guess.
today is sunday aka rest day. literally "rest day" in argentina. when i went to take the bus this morning (morning meaning 3:00 in the afternoon), the streets were empty. everyone takes sunday off, and either stays in the house or heads over to the park. my mom was still cooking lunch at 3 when i left, but i just couldn't stay inside for the rest of the day! it has been so beautiful this week...and the 21st of september marks the first day of spring in argentina...time to break out the summer clothes! too bad, i will be celebrating the first day of spring in patagonia (if you have patagonia clothing/apparel, the background of the logo is located in argentina) with two of my friends, where the temperature highs are at 40 degrees fahrenheit this week and snow is in the forecast! where else am i going to get such a great opportunity though? i am definitely one of the least travelled people on this trip, so it's great to be able to travel around...travelling is addicting!
you show off your weird skill of knowing all the lyrics to random songs/ harry potter puppet pals. go hannah wright. haha
