viaje final

i am also in the midst of planning out my final trip! my rubia (blonde, unheard of here) friend bri and i are heading up to iguazú falls (read about it here!) and san ignacio. eleanor roosevelt is rumored to have exclaimed "poor niagra!" when she saw iguazú for the first time, so that should give you an idea of how stupendous this last trip in argentina will be. we are hoping to leave at the end of november/first days of december to give us enough time to see the falls, visit the ruins in san ignacio, and head back to buenos aires in time for bri's flight home on the 9th. in BA we are planning on going to ESMA (the detention center where people against the dictatorship between 1976-1983 were secuestered, tortured, beaten, and killed without anyone knowing. fascinating stuff, because the argentinos try to forget this dolorosa, or painful, part of their history.), the quilmes brewery (quilmes is a popular beer here), and hopefully a soccer game! on another note, i went to the grocery store yesterday and picked up a few "typical" argentine foods...dulce de leche, fernet (combine it with coke to make a popular alcoholic drink...i still haven't been able to take a liking to it's medicinal taste, but figure i'd bring some back anyway), and yerba for mate. now all i need are alfajores and a few more bottles of wine to complete the food aspect! (oh, and mom, i bought another duffel bag....)
